How Site Technology is supporting Airport Operations in the GCC

Every flight that lands safely in the Gulf, every terminal that stays cool in 50°C heat, every runway that stays lit through the night, is powered by engineering that never stops. At Site Technology, that engineering is what we do best.

For 35 years, Site Technology has been trusted to deliver mission-critical systems across the Middle East. Today, our dedicated Airports Group stands ready to power, cool, protect and maintain the region's busiest gateways, as the GCC builds one of the most ambitious aviation networks in the world. Where uptime is non-negotiable, Site Technology delivers.

A region building for the future of flight

The GCC is in the middle of one of the largest aviation build-outs on the planet. GlobalData counts 48 airport renovation, expansion and new-build projects across the Gulf, worth an estimated $182.6 billion, with Saudi Arabia (42.5%) and the UAE (26.8%) leading the investment (Gulf Construction, Global Airports Forum).
The ambitions are bold:
• Saudi Arabia targets 330 million passengers a year by 2030 under its Aviation Strategy, backed by around $100 billion of investment, with King Salman International Airport in Riyadh at its centre.
• Jeddah plans to grow King Abdulaziz International from 40 to 114 million passengers a year by 2031 (Gulf Construction).
• Dubai is expanding Al Maktoum International, while Doha has launched Phase 2B of Hamad International and Muscat is adding a second runway.
More passengers, more flights and larger terminals bring tougher demands. Operators need power that never fails, aircraft turnarounds that run on time, security that keeps pace with traffic, and buildings that use less energy. Every one of these depends on engineering systems working around the clock.

Electrical works: power that cannot fail

In an airport, a power interruption is not an inconvenience. It can darken a runway, halt baggage systems or take navigation aids offline. Our Airports Group delivers the power protection and electrical systems that keep runway lighting, navigation systems and terminal facilities running without interruption:
• UPS and Dynamic UPS systems to bridge every outage and protect sensitive equipment
• Diesel generators for standby and prime power
• Frequency converters, including 50/400 Hz units that supply aircraft at the gate with ground power, so engines and auxiliary units can stay off
• Batteries and central battery systems for emergency lighting and safe evacuation
• EV charging for ground fleets, staff and passenger car parks
• ELV, integrated security and building management systems that connect, monitor and protect the whole facility

Mechanical works: climate, cooling and safety
Gulf summers push every mechanical system to its limit. We deliver climate control and mechanical systems that support aircraft servicing, passenger comfort and critical infrastructure:
• Pre-Conditioned Air (PCA) that cools parked aircraft from the ground, cutting fuel burn and emissions at the gate
• HVAC solutions for terminals, concourses and support buildings
• CRAC units and liquid cooling for the data rooms and control centres that now run airport operations
• Chilled water sensors and leak detection to catch problems before they cause damage
• Plumbing systems across terminal and airside facilities
• Screening and detection systems, including baggage, cargo and under-vehicle inspection, to keep passengers and assets safe

Maintenance works: 99.99% availability, 24/7
Installing a system is only the beginning. Its value is proven every day it keeps running. Our performance-based maintenance strategy targets 99.99% system availability, with preventive and predictive maintenance across every critical system:
• Electrical: UPS and generator maintenance, battery health analysis and power quality audits
• Mechanical: HVAC and PCA optimisation, CRAC system monitoring, plumbing and leak detection
• ICT: network infrastructure, security systems, access control, CCTV and building management systems
Predictive maintenance means we find the weak battery string or the drifting cooling unit before it becomes a delayed flight.

One partner, from design to daily operation
Airports are complex ecosystems, and every extra interface between contractors is a point where things can slip. Site Technology brings electrical, mechanical, ICT and maintenance capabilities under one roof, backed by our Power, Technology, Renewable Energy and Contracting groups:
• Turnkey delivery: design, procurement, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance
• Regional reach: nine offices across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Egypt and Lebanon, close to where the region's biggest airport projects are being built
• Proven scale: 35 years in business, more than 2,000 employees and 500+ engineers
• Certified quality: management systems built on ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001
As the Gulf builds the airports of the next decade, Site Technology is ready to power, cool, protect and maintain them.
