ENERGY EFFICIENCY the straight path towards Energy Sustainability

Part of its social responsibility and innovative strategies Site Technology has been following up with the development of the Energy Efficiency solutions. In this blog post we will go through: the meaning of Energy Efficiency, the history, the reasons and the main EE measures.

Energy efficiency means using less energy to perform the same task by eliminating energy waste. It is applied to all our daily activities, we can be efficient in our homes, industries, offices, transportation, products and commercial buildings. For example using a LED light is more efficient than a traditional incandescent bulb, or even a compact fluorescent bulb, as it uses much less electrical energy to produce the same amount of light. Similar concept is applied to an air conditioning, boiler, cars, etc.….

Being Energy efficient has many advantages on an individual, local and global scale:

Protecting the environment by reducing greenhouse gases and carbon emission

Managing better energy demands in the country hence increasing the country’s energy security

Contributing to a competitive energy market

Enhancing industry energy productivity

Reducing your energy bills

And for the reasons stated above as well as energy efficiency being one of the major characteristics of all new technologies, Site Technology incorporates energy efficient solutions in all its projects and activities. To properly understand energy efficiency there are terms to be familiar with: Energy Conservation measures, Energy Intensity and Energy Security.

Energy Conservation measures are the activities that help in reducing energy consumption, this includes additional equipment to be installed or simple behavior measures. (Example: Turning off lights while leaving the office and adjusting the thermostat temperature depending on the season are some examples of behavior measures).

Energy intensity is a measure of energy used for producing an element. This is helpful for bench-marking products and their energy consumption. This term can be applied for economies, and products.

Energy Security is the association between national security and the availability of natural resources for energy consumption.

In the next Energy Efficiency blog post we will go deeper into the history of energy efficiency and the reasons behind it.
